Porcupine Rim, or better yet the Whole Enchilada, on a big bike (complete with full-face helmet and pads) is an experience that every mountain biker should have at least once. I agree with you that it's a jackhammer and a bit tedious on a XC rig. It's complete different as a "downie." The drops that seem so intimidating feel like jumping off a curb, and the armor gives you confidence.

KC - I had a great time. Really, every minute of it was fun. I would go back in an instant. Moab is one of my favorite places anywhere. But I found myself feeling a little 'off' when I sat down to write about the weekend. I think it was my own lack of skill that conjured up the idea that those with more skill must have been laughing at me. But honestly, it was a great weekend, one I hope to repeat several times this winter.

Wow. I never feel as though riding in Moab is obligatory. I find it a treat every time. I did not realize such an idealistic place for X=country mountain biking could conjure up such feelings. I have always felt that area was practically hand crafted for us. And as I came down Porcupine, I did not feel as though any of the "downies" questioned our choice of or ability to ride such a trail. It is all about perception, I guess. Sorry. Hope you have a better experience next time.

I received the same looks when I rode my single speed on it a couple weeks ago. Did you make it to UPS and LPS? Those additions make the Porcupine Rim trail so much better. Especially now that UPS is legal.
